Fire Safe Communities Outreach Consultant:

Firescaping is excited to announce that we have received private funding to hire an individual to work on expanding and enhancing our outreach to fire safe councils and community fire risk organizations in the state of California! This part-time position is ideal for an individual with experience leading or organizing fire safe councils who is interested in helping to guide the development of a program designed to support fire safe council organizers and leaders around the state.

Firescaping is in the process of developing online forums in which Californians may post questions and ask for feedback and advice with every aspect of community fire organization development, leadership, and management. We are seeking an energetic, motivated, and responsible individual who is very experienced with fire safe councils to take part in this initiative.

Responsibilities: Assist in guiding the formation of the initiative. Provide feedback to web designer on functionality of the forum. Act as one of the moderators of the forum, helping steer the discussion and removing unhelpful or inappropriate comments. Conduct outreach to leaders and members of fire safe councils throughout California, telling them about the opportunities on the forums and encouraging their participation.

Requirements: The right person for this job is energetic, positive, and very engaged in fire safe planning in California. This is a telecommuting position, and requires significant internet access. No experience with websites or forum administration is required.

Volunteer:

Are you involved with fire safety in your community? Firescaping is currently seeking volunteers experienced with fire safety issues to work to help others prepare their homes and communities for wildfire. Firescaping is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing free or low-cost fire risk abatement services to individuals and communities around California and throughout the United States. Intern:

For the first time ever, Firescaping is offering two part-time internship opportunities this summer! The Internship program at Firescaping lasts one month. Firescaping offers its interns the opportunity to work with experienced professionals in the fire community engaging the public in fire prevention activities. Firescaping is looking for energetic, responsible, creative individuals who are interested in Firescaping’s mission and work. All applicants are expected to have excellent writing and communication skills. Previous experience in community organizing or wildfire issues is helpful, but not necessary. Firescaping is based in California, but will accept applications from individuals in other locations. Responsibilities will vary depending on the intern’s interests, background, and location, but all interns will have the opportunity to do substantive work advancing community fire engagement with the community. Interns will be assigned to a mentor and work closely with their mentor developing individualized tasks and responsibilities. Interns may also work with staff on research, web development, writing, fundraising, and public relations.
